For Shakera, inspiration for her luxury silk and cashmere scarves comes from her experiences with the natural world. Her enduring love affair with flowers means there is seldom a week without fresh blooms in the family home.

Before coronavirus restrictions were in place, and when the sporadic English weather permitted, Shakera would regularly visit botanical gardens and National Trust parks. So, as London slowly opened up a few weeks ago and our freedoms resurged, Shakera took a visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.

Kew Gardens is more than just another botanic garden, but takes on grandeur as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Created in 1759, the gardens took on the ecological pursuit of containing "...all the plants known on Earth" and have since developed into a museum of botany, ecology and garden design from time immemorial.

Shakera shares some of the sights that caught her eye; no doubt these wonderful blossoms, silhouettes and hues will weave themselves into Shakera’s floral scarf designs the next moment her pencil meets paper.
