Need a bank holiday for your bank holiday? Or feeling like it’s over before you even get a chance to enjoy the extra lie in? Many of us take these days off as an excuse for a long weekend away from the city, but few of us really make the most of the time off or stretch it to its sunny maximum.

A study by the Harvard Business Review found that planning weekend activities makes workers 13% happier, and we’re almost certain the same can be said for bank holiday plans. But with friends throwing barbeques, family dinners, Airbnb's all booked up or children desperate for some entertainment, it can be difficult to make the most of the time.

We’ve come up with three different ways you can create achievable and most importantly, enjoyable plans this bank holiday.

Idea one.....Find some time for you

Bank holidays are the perfect opportunity for indulgence. Book in to get your nails done, take a trip to the hairdressers, indulge in the TV shows you’ve been meaning to catch up on or plan a movie marathon. Indulgence is personal, meaning something different to us all. But it also means not sacrificing your time to plans you don’t love- the day is yours to spend how you wish: splash out.

And for the ultimate indulgence, splash out on the perfect last-minute trip away: alone, with friends or even that special someone.

Idea two.....a Homegrown Adventure

Many of us use a bank holiday as code for a long weekend away, but we forget to explore what's on our doorstep. Play tourist in your town for the day, venture to that restaurant you’ve been meaning to try but that always seemed so far away or check out a local gallery or museum. The perfect day out is possibly right next door, we’re just busy looking elsewhere to see it. Have an adventure in your own city and explore what it has to offer- you might even discover a hidden gem or new favourite spot

Idea three......Reconnect and Relax

It’s so easy to lose track of time, family and friends – a bank holiday is the perfect opportunity to reconnect and catch up on all the life stories, the dramas and the little moments you’ve not had time to share. There is nothing quite like letting your conversations continue past midnight, safe in the knowledge that you won’t have to get up for work the next morning. Take the weekend to plan that catch up and do it the way you like.
